Who is Dr. Bee?
Akua-Kisiwaa Adefope, “Dr. Bee”, is a Ghanaian American, raised in the Bronx and currently living in Brooklyn, NY, land of the Lenape people. She is a mother of a brilliant and joyful young man. She is also an auntie to fabulous humans, a sister, wife and daughter to a mother who taught me about resilience and father who taught me to follow my passion in peace.
Dr. Bee has worked in the field of education for over two decades serving as a classroom Mathematics Teacher for students with (dis)abilities, Senior Director of Instruction, an Assistant Principal and Adjunct Instructor.
She enjoys co-creating teaching and learning villages focused on inclusive and liberatory pedagogies.
She earned a Ph.D. in Urban Education – Language, Context, and Culture (LCC) from the City University of New York (CUNY), Graduate Center and a B.A. in Sociology from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Geneseo.
